Tell Me Something Tuesday is hosted by Rainy Day Ramblings.
Today’s question is:
What are your goals for 2018?
I’m interpreting this as Blog/Book goals.
I’m trying to keep things simple. Every January I start getting all excited, and see all the shiny, sparkly reading challenges that others are posting and then I eagerly sign up… but my track record SUCKS. I forget to track, or worse, sometimes I read books I don’t like just to complete a challenge. With my bookshelves groaning under the weight of books I do want to read, it seems stupid to try to pigeon hole my reading into categories. So I didn’t officially sign up for any. No pressure this year!
I read a lot in 2017, and that’s my goal for 2018- to continue to read a lot and to read books that both delight me as a reader, but also that help me understand the world and people around me that I might otherwise not experience.
I want to try to blog and comment more. I hope to renew this goal each month, because I know I’ll falter some months.
I want to write reviews as I go. This will be the hardest goal I set for myself. I read a lot (I’ve already read 9 books/graphic novels as of this writing, but it’s possible I’ll finish my audiobook tonight). So far, I’m keeping up. This goal is one that I at least want to attempt- my review numbers for the last few years have been dismal. And by not writing reviews, I sometimes don’t even remember much about the book. So I’m trying to change that. If I don’t have a lot to say, I’ll resort to my Short and Tweets reviews, even for some of my audiobooks.
I’ll probably save my blogging for afternoon or evenings. I used to try to do it in the mornings, which is why I think I’ve failed in the past. It’s too easy to run out of time in the morning rush to get ready for work, and during the week I have to be at work an hour earlier than I used to be scheduled. So I’m actually trying to stay off the computer completely in the ams. I’ve actually found this to be better for me and I’m arriving at work on time or earlier far more often. I also hope to have more time off this year. Things got crazy busy at the end of 2017, and between my 2 jobs I had almost no days off in October and November, which really burned me out. December was better- I had a planned staycation, but then I got the flu on Christmas, which led to more time off, but not of the productive kind.
My other review goal is to post reviews closer to their publication date. I often read a lot of arcs. One of my jobs at the bookstore is to write reviews for upcoming new releases for our newsletter and the last six months or so I’ve had a special YA feature. Which is great, but I’m not posting on my blog, and I don’t want to post them months earlier because then people might forget about the book before it even hits the shelves. Some of the reviews I’ve written so far this year have been scheduled nearer their release date (although I failed that with Anatomy of a Miracle, but to be fair, I hadn’t come up with goal yet).
I’d also like to keep up with posting memes on Tuesday, either this one or Top Ten Tuesday or both. I did do a fairly good job of that in 2017, mostly because PicMonkey made making graphics for TTT fairly easy.
