Tell Me Something Tuesday is hosted by Rainy Day Ramblings.
Today’s question is:
Do you give out one star reviews?
Kim: Not typically. In the past 7 years of GoodReads history I have only given 7 one star reviews. It’s not that I’m against 1 star reviews, I call it like I see it, but if the book is making me feel one star feels that I generally DNF. Why bother reading a book that I’m not enjoying? And all of my one star books definitely fall into one of two categories: this has to get better or holy hell can it get worse.
Kate: I’m of the same mind as Kim, normally I’ll DNF a book if it’s that bad. I have about 10 one star ratings, and most of them were books I either felt compelled to read because of book club or review requests. Some are from a time when it was hard for me to not finish a book. Sometimes it’s almost a Hate Read, when you continue to read a book you’re hating but for some reason- maybe you want to find out the ending, maybe you’re kind of enjoying how bad it is like watching a B-list horror movie- you can’t put it down. Usually I tend to be too generous with ratings, because even when a book is bad, I can appreciate the effort the author put into it.
