Welcome to our Sundays In Bed With… Meme! The meme that dares to ask what book has been in your bed this morning? Come share what book you’ve spent time curled up reading in bed, or which book you wish you had time to read today!
We’re done trying to make this a blog hop, but still feel free to participate! Maybe someday we’ll try to make it happen as a blog hop again, but right now we feel like Gretchen trying to make ‘fetch’ happen.
This morning Kim is reading:
Ugh, probably nothing because I still need to get my house in order. Last week I was sick and I’m just super busy with end of the school year stuff that I haven’t had time, so today is THE DAY. Plus I have people coming over next weekend so I really can’t prolong this any longer. I may spend some time listening to Beauty Queens while I work. If I have time to today I’m going to settle in with The Thousandth Floor, the book where I am still waiting for something, anything, to happen.
This morning Kate is reading:
I have no idea what Kate is reading. Yesterday her and her husband were traveling back home from BEA in NYC on the train. I’m sure she’ll tell us all about BEA soon. Unfortunately according to GoodReads Kate is not currently reading any books, so I have no idea what she is actually reading. I don’t know if that means Kate has currently finished any books she was working on, or if possibly she is not as diligent as I am in marking books “currently reading” as I am.
In any case bookish friends, I hope y’all have a great Sunday. Summer is just around the corner!
Kate here- I am diligent AF about marking my “currently reading” books, usually. But I was on the train yesterday and Goodreads does not work great with spotty wifi coverage.
So here’s what I’m reading:
Mister Tender’s Girl by Carter Wilson
I just got back from NYC and Book Expo last night, and this was my train read. Usually when I go to BEA there are a few books I’m hoping to snag because I’ve planned my trip and color coded the book drops, the author signings, the in booth signings, etc, and know what’s going to be there. This year I didn’t do a lot of that because I knew that I’d be in meetings with publishers and didn’t want to worry about what fun and books I might be missing.
But regardless of how planned I have been in the past, there is ALWAYS a book or two that I get super excited about even though I had never heard of it before. I was at Sourcebooks on Friday, searching for my boss (she wanted me to join a meeting with her there, but I didn’t know if it was the 2:30 meeting or the 4:30 one) so I was just loitering in the area. There was an author signing and it was towards the end and the line was small, so I hopped in. While I was in line I heard one of the Sourcebooks reps pitching my Sundays In Bed With read to someone else.
This is what I heard: That this book is based on the Slenderman legend and the attempted murder by two tween friends of their third friend. Now the survivor is an adult and things are not going well for her (also- her father was a graphic novelist, and Mister Tender (the Slenderman like figure, only in my opinion a million times cooler than Slenderman) was his creation.
Um, sign me up!
But it was not the book I was in line for, and I didn’t know the title so I was forced to roam Sourcebooks until I found the title on the shelf– and it was display only, no author signings, no book drops. I was crushed. It had been love at first overheard plotline.
But, then a different rep came and talked to me, and gave me a copy just based on my excitement of the title. And she has my undying love for all of eternity.
So far, I’m loving it, and it’s everything I wanted it to be.
Hope your Sunday is bringing you some good reading!
