Welcome BACK to my Sundays In Bed With… Meme! The meme that dares to ask what book has been in your bed this morning? Come share what book you’ve spent time curled up reading in bed, or which book you wish you had time to read today!
I know, I know, I switched to In Bed With a Book meme, but I’m switching back. I’m done trying to make this a blog hop, but still feel free to participate! Maybe someday I’ll try to make it happen as a blog hop again, but right now I feel like Gretchen trying to make ‘fetch’ happen.
This morning I’m reading:
The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead
This past summer when I started working at the bookstore, Underground Airlines by Ben H. Winters was just coming out, which imagines the world as if the Civil War had never happened and that slavery was still allowed in 4 states. It was part dystopian, part crime thriller (because that’s what Winters does best) and completely horrifying. So when The Underground Railroad popped up and became a bestseller, it definitely called to me, but I wanted to wait so that Underground Airlines wasn’t so present in my head.
I’ll be starting the audiobook on my drive to work today and other than my Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets chapter I’ll be reading for my #hpchapteraday challenge, it’ll probably be the only real reading I’ll get to. Although…
March (Book One) by John Lewis, Andrew Aydin and Nate Powell
Very recently the New York Times decided to merge graphic novels into their Bestsellers list. Until now, they were still tracking graphic novels, but kept them separate from their main list. This is great for me, because I really like graphic novels but our store doesn’t really have the inventory space to carry a lot of graphic novels (although we’re happy to order anything anyone wants to read). Now, thanks to a certain man dissing Representative John Lewis on Twitter, his graphic novels have soared to the bestseller lists. Right now we only have one copy of the first volume left, so if today is slow at the bookstore (I really hope it’s not), then I might flip through this one. I’ll wait until we get more in to buy one though, because I’d rather sell it than hog it all to myself.
What are you reading (or wish you had time to read) this morning? Are you reading the book you thought you’d be reading, or has today found you with a surprise?
