It's Christmas in Half-Moon Hollow and newly turned vampire Iris Scanlon-Calix wants to make Gigi's first visit home from college as normal and special as possible. It's taken months for Iris to work up the nerve to spend time around her baby sister after her vampire transition, so she enlists help from Jane Jameson and Company to keep her blood-thirst under control and assure Gigi's safety.
Gigi, on the other hand, has problems of her own, including the demise of her relationship with high school sweetheart, Ben, and a looming job interview with Ophelia Lambert, the scariest potential employer in the Hollow. And then there's the small matter of the handsome, frustrating vampire who keeps appearing in Gigi's peripheral vision, then disappearing before she can talk to him.
Can the Scanlon sisters negotiate romantic problems, vampire politics, and Christmas cookie disasters and enjoy a relatively normal holiday?
I love audio books. In the author’s notes on the audio version of Joe Hill’s NOS4A2, he talks about how the first stories we learn are read to us. I listen to audio books when I’m in the car, shopping, and playing Candy Crush Soda Saga or Trivia Crack.
In typical book blogger fashion, I already have a tbr shelf just for audio books. Reviewing them is a bit more difficult, because I don’t take notes and I don’t always know how to spell the characters names. So these reviews will be a little different from my book reviews.
Gigi comes home for the holidays in this cute Christmasy Half-Moon Hollow novella. Big sister Iris is now happily a vampire, and many hilarious hijinks ensue as she and Cal and all of Jane’s gang try to give Gigi the perfect, human, Christmas.
I was a little worried that Jane’s vampire son, Jamie, was going to be the main love interest- don’t get me wrong, Jamie is cool. But I love his friendship with Gigi, and despite Ophelia’s crazyness (or maybe because of it?), I like their relationship too. Thankfully, that does not appear to be the case as this novella sets up Gigi’s full length novel, The Dangers of Dating a Rebound Vampire. While Gigi is dealing with falling out of love with her very human boyfriend, Ben, a mysterious and super hunky vampire keeps showing up everywhere she goes. Between dodging Ben, wondering who Mystery Vampire is, dealing with Ophelia’s super jealousy, Gigi is having a tough time surviving the holidays.
The audiobook is short and sweet, and is definitely worth the listen! I saved this book until Christmastime 2014, just to make my holidays a little brighter. But I’m all for Christmas any time of the year (and Hallmark Movie Channel thankfully agrees with me, at least in the month of July).
Amanda Ronconi hits it out of the ballpark, to absolutely no one’s surprise.
