2016 was a great year for me personally. I finished my third year of teaching strong, with a great group of kids. I went on an epic road trip over the summer. In late August I started at a new school and I’ve never been happier. Right now I’m back in Texas to see my new niece who was born in November (and see the adorable first one too of course).
Reading wise things were very slow. At this time I’ve only read 52 books, which is my lowest total by more than half since I started using Goodreads in 2012. I went through a huge slump this summer, which is a bummer as that’s the easiest time for me to read because there is no school. Thankfully things are back to normal.
Now… on to the stats!
No surprises here. Contemporaries are my favorite. Totally 66.7% overall. What does surprise me is the 7 science fiction books I read. That’s a lot for me!
This one still blows my mind. I only read 5 print books this year. Five!! That’s crazy. 64.7% were digital.
As always most the books I read are those that I’ve purchased. I’m pleased that almost 20% of my books were from the library – that’s a big chunk to me. Digital copies for the win! (I’m not very good at returning the physical copies.)
I feel good about my ratings this year. I’ve toned down the 5 star to be the REALLY REALLY GOOD ones. And if a book is bad enough for one star than I usually DNF.
I read A LOT of series this year. But that’s ok. I actually really like series books. I like see what the characters are up to later on.
This one is a big change from the last three years and Adult books overtook the YA books. I think that was mostly because of my reading slump and I tend to go with contemporary romances during that time.
Jill Shalvis is my favorite author so this is no surprise. And 70% were different authors so I feel good about that.
Yeah… this is pretty typical, but probably lower than ever before. Gotta work on this one!
Well this was my year. Not as great as other years, but overall not too bad. How was your year?
