Welcome BACK to my Sundays In Bed With… Meme! The meme that dares to ask what book has been in your bed this morning? Come share what book you’ve spent time curled up reading in bed, or which book you wish you had time to read today!
I know, I know, I switched to In Bed With a Book meme, but I’m switching back. I’m done trying to make this a blog hop, but still feel free to participate! Maybe someday I’ll try to make it happen as a blog hop again, but right now I feel like Gretchen trying to make ‘fetch’ happen.
This morning I’m reading:
The Stupidest Angel by Christopher Moore
My friend Bittner and I have been in an on and off again book club for over 8 years now. She started it right before I moved to Virginia from Oklahoma and we even had a couple of other members for awhile before it went back to her and I. Then it kind of fizzled because we both started real life book clubs in our hometowns. We started it back up a while ago, but we don’t necessarily read a book a month, some books take us longer to get to because we both work two jobs (I’d like to point out that both our 2nd jobs are book related- hers at the library, mine at the bookstore), and because it’s hard to find time to chat on the phone about the book that we’re reading at different paces, so we have a private Facebook page to post our thoughts on the current book.
I love reading books with Bittner because she’s a much more active, deeper reader than I tend to be. My books often look pristine when I’m done reading them, and any notes I take are in a notebook or on post-its, whereas Bittner’s books look well-read, with her thoughts on the margin, and favorite lines underlined. I devour books, she savors them. We also have different tastes in books, and it’s wonderful when we both end up liking a book or author but it’s just as much fun when we disagree.
The Stupidest Angel is Bittner’s pick, which is funny, because the book is something more along the lines of what I would pick- quirky, humorous, completely insane. So of course, I’m loving it! This is NOT a Christmas book you’d share with your deeply religious aunt or your elderly mum! There’s a really stupid angel, a murder, a zombie Santa, and lots of sex thrown in. It’s hilarious. I’ve only read Christopher Moore once before, earlier this year actually, but I think I’m going to dive into his body of work. I have a feeling I could use a lot of bookish laughs in the new year.
What are you reading (or wish you had time to read) this morning? Are you reading the book you thought you’d be reading, or has today found you with a surprise?
