Welcome BACK to my Sundays In Bed With… Meme! The meme that dares to ask what book has been in your bed this morning? Come share what book you’ve spent time curled up reading in bed, or which book you wish you had time to read today!
I know, I know, I switched to In Bed With a Book meme, but I’m switching back. I’m done trying to make this a blog hop, but still feel free to participate! Maybe someday I’ll try to make it happen as a blog hop again, but right now I feel like Gretchen trying l;to make ‘fetch’ happen.
This morning I’m reading:
Books For Living by Will Schwalbe
I met Will Schwalbe at my first ever BEA at the Book Bloggers Convention. We got to pick 4 authors to “lunch” with. They would take turns sitting down and talking with us. I chose the group Schwalbe was in because Justin Cronin, author to The Passage, was also part of it and because the YA authors were in high demand. Will talked about his book, End of Your Life Book Club, about the books he and his mom read while she was being treated for, and ultimately dying of, pancreatic cancer. I read the book when it came out, and I loved it- I too lost my dad to pancreatic cancer, and I got my love of reading from him. Sadly, my father’s diagnosis and death occurred within barely a 2 month period, and his cancer had already spread too far to treat.
While I loved reading about the books and conversations Will and his mom (who was an amazing woman!) had about the books they read, it left me wanting a bit more. Books for Living is that bit more. It’s a book for Readers- capital R and all. It’s about books and what we learn from them, and how they make us feel and how they connect us to the world around us. I’m about half way thru the eArc right now, and it’s already one of those books I just want to share with all my Reader friends… well, I actually think everyone should read this, because if all people read as much as we do then the whole world would be a better place.
What are you reading (or wish you had time to read) this morning? Are you reading the book you thought you’d be reading, or has today found you with a surprise?
