And this is just what I need to get back into reviewing. It’s not that I’m not reading folks, I just underestimated what working two jobs and joining 4 book clubs (running 2 of them) would do to me. Well, I really only run the new book club I started for my book store, and I have lots of help from the owner and publishers, and my other book club practically runs itself. But still, time people, it’s something that is lacking in my life.
But now it’s September, which is the start of my October. And it’s raining today, which feels like Fall is trying to happen for me. While I enjoy all genres, there’s something special about reading horror, thrillers, mysteries and fantasy when the weather is cool and crisp and I can pile under the blanket to read without having to crank the AC.
I always love the R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril XI challenge because it makes me feel less alone in my love for things that go bump in the night. So here’s what I’m participating in:
Between now and October 31st I am planning on reading at least 4 books that fall into one of these categories:
I’ve just finished You Kill Me, and I’m listening to The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place, and reading The Natural Way of Things… so I should meet this requirement and then some before October is even here. But I just need to write REVIEWS. Sigh.
I am also planning on reading some short stories that fit this requirement- I have Joe Hill, Kelly Link, Roald Dahl and Robert McCammon all lined up already.
I am not sure why I love watching horror movies and shows, but I do, no matter how bad they scare me. I’m in the middle of a Supernatural binge watch (on Season 4 now), but I’m thinking of adding Orphan Black to the mix too. But lots of horror movies will be watched!!
This is a new category and one I’m pretty excited about! It’s about game playing, which I don’t do a lot of, but I love playing Team Fortress 2 during the Halloween season because there’s ghosts and skeletons and costumes and lots of fun stuff added.
So, that’s the plan for the next 2 or 3 months. I still like to read scary books all winter long, but Hallmark Movie Channel drags me into watching mostly super cheesy Christmas movies that I can somehow love as much as horror movies. I’m a complicated chick.
I hope to see some of you participating- the genres are pretty broad, so you don’t have to read something that will scare the pants off you, but maybe just a really good mystery that will keep you guessing until the final pages.
