Welcome BACK to my Sundays In Bed With… Meme! The meme that dares to ask what book has been in your bed this morning? Come share what book you’ve spent time curled up reading in bed, or which book you wish you had time to read today!
I know, I know, I switched to In Bed With a Book meme, but I’m switching back. I’m done trying to make this a blog hop, but still feel free to participate! Maybe someday I’ll try to make it happen as a blog hop again, but right now I feel like Gretchen trying to make ‘fetch’ happen.
This morning I’m reading:
HEX by Thomas Olde Huevelt
I’ve mentioned this several times in the last two months, but I absolutely love me new job at the bookstore! HEX is one of those reasons. The author is coming for a book signing Wednesday and I’m planning on going because the book, so far, is so good! It’s like Cabin in the Woods meets the Blair Witch Project. It’s funny and scary, snarky and sinister, which is kind of my thing. (No I won’t be staying up late to listen to this one, thank you very much- daylight listening hours only). HEX is already being optioned to be a TV series.
I love horror, but good horror is hard to find. I actually rarely read it anymore. Most horror authors go for the slasher porn side of horror, which is not my thing. I read a lot of really bad horror when I was a teen before I pulled the plug on reading crappy books. Authors who bring the chills as well as excellent stories are few and far between- Stephen King, Joe Hill, Ania Alhborn, Robert McCammon, Clive Barker, and M.R. Carey are the only ones who spring immediately to mind. Mostly I stay on the Thriller/Suspense side of the horror line, with occasional dips in the Sci-Fi Zombie pool (which sounds gross, I probably could have worded that better, but my brain is only on a few sips of coffee this morning).
But at about half way in to HEX, I can definitely add Huevelt to the list of horror authors that I love. HEX is his first USA debut, but he’s written other novels that I’m hoping to get my hands on.
If you live near Richmond and you’re looking for good horror, then join us Wednesday night at Fountain Bookstore!
What are you reading (or wish you had time to read) this morning? Are you reading the book you thought you’d be reading, or has today found you with a surprise?
