Day 5 of Parajunkee’s blog hop 12 Days of Book Blogmas! Today’s post is:
Hmm, and I thought the Naughty List was challenging… Most characters I like would be considered “nice”, but lucky for you, I don’t have twenty hours to spend typing up a comprehensive list of nice characters and cross referencing it to with Goodreads. So, I’ll just pick three. 😉
1. Odd Thomas (from the Odd Thomas series by Dean Koontz).
My Odd one is super nice. I mean, he’ll kick some ass if he has help some ghost get peace or protect the world from nuclear war, but the reason he does all of these things is because other people matter more to him. He’s not willing to stand by and watch suffering, and he’s strongly empathetic. Plus, he has a ghost dog, and you know they don’t just like everyone.
2. Jane Jameson (from the Jane Jameson series by Molly Harper).
Yes, she’s a vampire, and yes, she’s super sarcastic, but if Jane is your friend there is nothing she won’t do for you. Granted, she’ll probably mess it up, or watch you mess it up and then laugh at you, but it doesn’t come from a mean place. Jane has a tendency to take in strays and make them her own highly eclectic and dysfunctional family (Dick Cheney, for example- the super old vampire, not the ex-VP). When I started trying to think of “Nice” characters, I tried to think of characters I’d like to be friends with, and Jane was at the top of the heap.
3. Neville Longbottom (from the Harry Potter series by JK Rowling).
If Dolores Umbridge is the number one dirty bird on the Naughty List, than Neville has to be top on the Nice List. Unlike the famous trio, Neville is always nice to everyone, and not in a patronizing way- for instance he’s truly accepting of Luna, while it takes more of an effort for Harry and Hermione (don’t get me started on Ron, I love the ginger, but at times he’s not very nice- he’s a typical teen boy). Neville is just a sweet, loving guy. He could have been all moody- some could argue that he has just as much right as Harry does to be bitter and moody (Harry was so emo at times), but nothing can diminish is sweet disposition. He may be a brave Gryffindor, but there’s plenty of Hufflepuff kindness in him!
So what characters top your Blogmas Nice List?
