Welcome BACK to my Sundays In Bed With… Meme! The meme that dares to ask what book has been in your bed this morning? Come share what book you’ve spent time curled up reading in bed, or which book you wish you had time to read today!
I know, I know, I switched to In Bed With a Book meme, but I’m switching back. I’m done trying to make this a blog hop, but still feel free to participate! Maybe someday I’ll try to make it happen as a blog hop again, but right now I feel like Gretchen trying to make ‘fetch’ happen.
This morning I’m reading:
Chestnut Street by Maeve Binchy
I’m still all kinds of sad over the death of Maeve Binchy. It’s heartbreaking when a favorite author passes, but I’m glad she left behind some stories that I can read now. Chestnut Street is comprised of a bunch of short stories about the inhabitants of Chestnut Street in Dublin, and like all Binchy books, it’s warm, charming and sometimes sad. I would love to be a character in one of her books- the practical ones that get their lives together, not the ones that have affairs with married blokes, or the ones who’s husband strays. I hope to finish this one today.
I’ve been a bad blogger the last two months, I just got caught up in other things. But I’m back into it, and I’ve already booked my hotel for BEA 2015 (so excited!). I don’t get in reading slumps anymore, but I do get into blogging slumps, usually around this time each year. I’m sorry that I fell of the commenting wagon too- I have a lot of catching up to do! Thank you for sticking by me, midnighters!
I’m listening to:
The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
I own hundreds of Audible books (damn you daily deals and $4.95 sales!), but this book is one of the oldest in my audio library that I hadn’t read yet. It’s not the oldest- Damned by Chuck Palahniuk earns that dubious honor. I have tried three times to get into Damned, but I hate it. Can’t listen to it at all. It’s the bane of my audible existence. The Time Traveler’s Wife isn’t even the 2nd oldest unread audio book, that would be Timeless by Gail Carriger. In my defense of Timeless, I bought it on sale before I’d even listened to the first book on audio. I also thought it was the 4th book, but I’ve only read the first 3 and don’t have book 4 yet, so I will get to it because I love the series and the narrator.
The Time Traveler’s Wife is one of those books that I missed the boat on. When it came out EVERYONE read it, even people who don’t read much have read it. I haven’t even seen the movie, but the plot sounded fantastic, so I downloaded it (according to Audible, on 9/7/2012). Why am I just now getting to it? Not sure, but I was trying to clear out some of my older titles and this one was calling to me. I’m only 4 hours in, but I am very much enjoying it.
On an interesting side note, I joined Audible in March of 2009, but only for the free trial period. My first book? Heart and Soul by Maeve Binchy. 😉 I rejoined Audible on 11/11/10 and that’s when my true audiobook obsession took root.
What are you reading (or wish you had time to read) this morning? Are you reading the book you thought you’d be reading, or has today found you with a surprise? Any good audiobooks you’re listening to?
