Jane Austens classic romantic comedy is the sparkling tale of the Bennets, a family blessed with five daughters and a mother desperate to marry them off. The tempestuous pairing of the witty, independent Elizabeth and her arrogant but honorable suitor Mr. Darcy, sets the standard for all great couples of stage and screen. Although many have tried, few literary romances have matched the wit and gentle satire of Austens Pride and Prejudice.

I love audio books. In the author’s notes on the audio version of Joe Hill’s NOS4A2, he talks about how the first stories we learn are read to us. I listen to audio books when I’m in the car, shopping, and playing Candy Crush.
In typical book blogger fashion, I already have a tbr shelf just for audio books. Reviewing them is a bit more difficult, because I don’t take notes and I don’t always know how to spell the characters names. So these reviews will be a little different from my book reviews.
Elizabeth and Darcy are perfection! Obviously the play is very abridged, but all my favorite scenes are there. It felt a bit like listening to the 2008 movie, which is exactly what I wanted. I really can’t say anything more about P&P that hasn’t already been said. It’s one of my all time favorite stories, one I think everyone should read (even if our own men aren’t quite cut out of the same cloth as Mr. Darcy- although I will say The Hubs is pretty close, and he doesn’t have a evil aunt). Elizabeth is an amazing heroine, especially if you consider the time she lived in. The Bennets are like so many real families- crazy! I love spending time with them, although unlike Elizabeth, I don’t have to put up with them all the time. 😉
There are so many narrators since this a recording of a play (the summary I found on Goodreads lists them all). I found this book on audible because of Kate Burton. I was really impressed with her narration of Anne of Green Gables, so I looked up her other narrations. It was love at first listen to this, and all the narrators do a fantastic job! It’s amazing how I can find Mr. Darcy as attractive in voice as I can on page or screen. I really wish I’d have saved this for a readathon, but I will be returning to this audio again and again for a little Pride and Prejudice therapy.
